Advisory committee included major figures in the New Negro movement (local to Philadelphia and broadly through the USA) and 1st issue includes influential piece by Alain Locke “All Hail Philadelphia.” Free Library of Philadelphia.
Philadelphia artist and activist Allan Randall Freelon (1895-1960) was an editor for Black Opals and did many of the illustrations.
