Title

The Black Bottom

Subject

Gentrification, urban development, Penn expansion

Description

This website covers the history of the black bottom, a predominantly black neighborhood that was thriving and had many middle-class residents until apartment buildings were sold to Penn and Drexel which bulldozed and completely reshaped the neighborhood. The area is continuing to undergo gentrification and residents keep the memory of the Black Bottom alive as they resist gentrification and serve as an inspiration to other changing communities.
