In 1968, activists in SDS at the University of Delaware published The Heterodoxical Voice, reporting on student movements, racial inequalities, and protests against the war in Vietnam. Chris Oakley of Newark, Delaware, was a community journalist and organizer in the late 1960s and 70s, and she was a strong advocate for media democracy. To insure diverse viewpoints on local, national, and international issues, Ms. Oakley contributed and subscribed to numerous alternative newspaper publications and literary magazines.
