In this episode, we journey with muthi reed to New Orleans, Alabama, and Philadelphia in their pursuit of black migrations and black public joy as resistance. muthi conducts krewe coumbite /// HOUSE OF BLACK INFINITY, an iterative series of social happenings in Philadelphia interested in public memory, magic and choreographed Black presence, gathering, mass and processional. They are looking into the history of Juneteenth in Philadelphia, the African American holiday’s celebrations, and the presentation and regulation of blackness in parades and other street/public spaces from the Great Migration to the present. Pre-pandemic, muthi was working through collections at Philadelphia City Archives and Temple Special Collections Research Center.
